Frequently asked questions.
What is ADHD?
ADHD is a neuro developmental disorder that impairs executive function through the brain’s self management systems. It is not a behavioral disorder, nor a mental illness. ADHD affects approximately 11% of children and almost 5% of adults. ADHD has no cure, but can improve significantly with treatment.
What ages does ADHD Life Medical Associates treat?
Currently we are only taking patients 13 yrs and older for treatment. We do offer parent coaching for any age, and QB testing for ages 6-60yrs old. We anticipate to offer treatment for 6 years and older in the near future.
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral. Simply book an appointment for your first consultation.
Can I get both tested and treated for ADHD?
Yes. On initial consultation you will have a comprehensive evaluation for diagnosis of ADHD, screening for other similar and commonly associated disorders, and screening for possible learning disabilities.
Does ADHD Life Medical Associates only treat ADHD?
Aside from ADHD, we also treat Depression and Anxiety which can often coexist with ADHD. We screen for other disorders, and work closely with The Marriage and Family Clinic for counseling and other ancillary services, with most provided in house. We are in the process of expanding our practice to offer care for more complex psychiatric disorders.
Does ADHD Life Medical Associates work with schools?
Yes. We do offer guidance on individualized 504 and IEP plans when appropriate. This includes education about 504 and IEP plans, recommendations for working with teachers and counselors, as well as developing an at home plan to support your child. Not all students with ADHD require these services. Many teachers have implemented class-wide accommodations to all students to help improve focus and retention. It is imperative to maintain good relationships with the school system. Final determination of plans are made by your child’s school administration after evaluating information from all sources including teachers, parents, counselors, and clinical providers if applicable.
What is MindPrint and what age does my child need to be tested?
MindPrint is the only K12 solution that uses objective cognitive data to teach students how they learn best and provide strategies personalized to students’ learning strengths and needs. Anyone of a second grade reading level to 21yrs old can take the MindPrint evaluation.
Does MindPrint diagnose learning disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders?
MindPrint does not diagnose learning disabilities or neurodevelopment disorders. It does, however, provide indicators for further testing for specific learning disorders, and further clues to why your child may be struggling. It also screens for giftedness.
How can MindPrint help my child in school?
MindPrint results and strategies can be immediately applied at home by parents and students, shared with tutors, school counselors, teachers, and assist in developing 504 plans and IEPs. If results indicate, we may recommend you request further testing through the school district or private testing through a qualified psychologist. MindPrint also offers special recommendations for SATs and ACTs when requested.
What is your Cancelation policy?
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you do not cancel 24 hours in advance, you will be charged $75.
Do we take insurance?
At this time, we are not accepting insurance, aside from obtaining prior authorizations for prescription coverage for our clients. Consultations and sessions are self-pay only. We do this so we can spend less time on administrative work and negotiating with insurance companies trying to manipulate our practice, providing us more time to concentrate on giving excellent and personalized care to our clients.
We do provide documentation that may be submitted to your insurance company for eligible out-of-network benefits, health savings account (HSA) distributions, and flexible spending account (FSA) distributions.
